Alka Patel serves as the Chief of Responsible AI for the Department of Defense Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) where she leads the Department’s strategy and implementation on the responsible development, procurement, and use of AI capabilities at the enterprise level.
She focuses on governance and policy, workforce education, acquisition, and international dialogues to support and advance Responsible AI. She also engages in intergovernmental and international efforts on advancing Responsible AI, including the General Services Administration, the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, to name a few.
Patel brings experience from the private sector and, most recently, the academic sector where she led a private industry/academic Digital Transformation Innovation Center at Carnegie Mellon University.
Patel holds a Juris Doctorate and master’s degree in business administration from Duquesne University and a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
